Learning Python at Nano Hackers 2015

Editor's Note: Our high school intern Nickesha shares her journey learning to code in Python for the first time with Nano Hackers. Read her previous blog post on Interning at CoderDojo NYC

Nano Hackers is a initiative led by one of our mentors Pedro to offer free long-term group coding lessons and mentorship. They meet weekly to work on projects and previous groups have learned iOS and advanced Javascript.

I’ve been able to attend a club called Nano Hackers, and you learn to code in a computer language called Python. Just like any language it’s not easy just to pick up a second language. Theres a lot of things to remember and it takes a lot of practice for it to stick which has been my biggest challenge learning the language. The kids in the club have been creating games and with Python and come to class looking to improve there game and gain more knowledge on the language.

"One of my favorite parts about going to Nano Hackers is that you're learning something new and it connects back to everything you learned to the previous lesson, so everything will make sense also."

Pedro the instructor for Nano Hackers have been awesome he takes his time making sure that you understand what going on and that you're picking up the curriculum. One of my favorite parts about going to Nano Hackers is that you're learning something new and it connects back to everything you learned to the previous lesson, so everything will make sense also.

"I’ve learned that programming already assigns letters to numbers, and that creating a function that will use those numbers to convert the messages and vice versa."

Something that were working on in Nano Hacker is an Affine Cipher Converter. I’ve learned that programming already assigns letters to numbers, and that creating a function that will use those numbers to convert the messages and vice versa. It’s currently under construction. Python is a computer language that children should learn, and if you're one of those kids Nano Hackers is a great place to start and it’s fun when you can make your own game. Python is a great way to start your career as future computer software engineers.
